When the Golden Gate Bridge needed a new stretch of street lighting, contractors trusted Valmont to match the bridge’s emblematic style and structure. Valmont's engineers designed 30 rectangular curved poles while accounting for AASHTO criteria and variable conditions on the bridge. The customer’s rectangular design required Valmont to hand weld four separate longitudinal steel pieces. Valmont combined three of these rectangular sections and curved the top two to create the customer's desired shape. Corrosion concerns were mitigated through Valmont’s hot-dip galvanizing and protective paint finish. The pole's top quality finish not only served as a barrier to corrosive elements but also matched the bridge’s historic red tone.
