Baseball Bat Poles Decorate Omaha's Landmark
When the TD Ameritrade Park was to become the home of NCAA College World Series in 2011, care was put into every component of its construction.
With proper lighting an absolute must in sports venues of this magnitude, Valmont® product designer Chris Waitzman took to the challenge of creating a custom solution that was original, captured the spirit of the stadium and offered high quality performance.
His finished design is a skillful combination of novel aesthetics and trusted, functional engineering. The reverse tapered wooden shafts of the poles perfectly emulate the look of a baseball bat, with the decorative rings that suggest the bat’s grip providing extra protection for the electrical components within the pole. A standard light fixture becomes a cohesive part of the design with the application of a graphic to the circular reflector component to give it the appearance of a baseball, down to the red stitching.
Aside from providing visual interest, these poles also help passerby to identify the stadium and its purpose from afar. Fun landmarks are often an important part of a city’s identity.
The Tehomet “Baseball Bat” lighting poles from Valmont Structures exceeded expectations and have helped to define TD Ameritrade Park since 2011 as the premier sports venue in Omaha, Nebraska and as the home of the College World Series.
